There are many people these days that are choosing to keep chickens on their property for a number of reasons. Anyone that is planning on keeping chickens in your backyard needs to understand why it is imperative to have a hen house and run to keep them in.

There are a variety of reasons why a chicken coop is so essential to have for anyone keeping chickens outdoors at home. Once you learn these reasons you will understand why you have to build a hen house before you get any chickens to keep in it.

The following are the main reasons a chicken coop is so imperative for your chickens.

1. Chickens safety - Chickens are small and vulnerable creatures when it comes to a few different things. They have to be well protected from the weather or they can get sick or die from exposure.

They also make very easy prey for a lot of animals like foxes. Having housing for them is going to give them a safe place to sleep at night so they are well protected from all dangers. Without good housing for the chickens, you can count on them not surviving long.

2. Place to lay their eggs - Chickens lay eggs and this is one of the main reasons that many people are choosing to keep them on their property these days. If you want the chickens to lay eggs for your family then they need a safe place to do this in.

If the chickens do not feel safe then they will fail to lay eggs. Providing them with safe housing will give them the perfect place to lay all the eggs they can for you.

3. To keep the chickens happy and healthy - Most people do not know it, but a happy and safe chicken is also a healthy chicken. Keeping your poultry healthy is imperative because if they are not then they will fail to lay eggs and it can cost you to make them better or you could lose them altogether.

This will not be good for you because then you would have to spend even more money to replace them and that is not something anyone wants to do. So having good housing for them will ensure they can be kept healthy and happy, if you take good care of them.

These are the top reasons why you really need a hen house and run if you want to keep chickens on your property. Building your own chicken coop is smart because you can do it for a fraction of the cost of a kit and this means you will have the money needed to build a really safe and sturdy hen house.
