One of the primary attractions of network marketing is the ability to get paid on the work of people underneath you. This is known as building a mlm downline and is literally the key to developing a long term residual income.
As you look at your compensation plan one thing to consider is how far down does the pay plan go when you are building your MLM downline?
I have never been one to spend a lot of time analyzing an MLM compensation plan. I do think there are advantageous and disadvantages to various plans.
I personally have fallen in love with the single leg concept which makes it possible to max out a compensation plan with one leg. Very few MLM programs offer this yet it is a very powerful recruiting tool.
The key thing to building a downline is that you will get paid on the efforts of others even if they pass you up in the various qualification levels. You do not want to be totally shut out of an income when you're building your downline distributorship.
The other key thing is what is the product line you are representing?
If you represent a product that people will use on a daily basis, whether they're in the network marketing business or not, you stand an excellent chance of succeeding. As your downline grows a good majority of the distributors will stay in it and you will get paid on their purchases and sales.
Many network marketing programs are built around products that people use on a daily basis. This presents a problem because you can have a large group underneath you and no volume of products being moved through it.
In that instance you are not going to get paid very far down in your downline because it doesn't matter. Nobody is purchasing any products or selling them on a consistent basis.
This also explains the high attrition rates network marketing companies face. When the opportunity is not paying off people tend to drop out quicker unless they are attached to the product which they may continue to use.
You are going to spend the majority of your time enrolling new distributors if your goal is to create a large MLM income. Therefore you want to have a basic understanding of how far down your compensation plan pays you.
However the majority of your effort should be spent on becoming the proud owner of the product, and driving traffic to your MLM website. If you do that you will build a large group and get paid accordingly.
