Network marketing is a brilliant yet simple business model that works well to make money online. You need to use the product yourself, sell them at retail, enroll new business members and teach them to do the same.

Over the years how to build an MLM business has changed thanks to the Internet. However, it is amazing to me how many people struggle to build a successful network marketing business of their own.

I like to hang out in discussion forums when I have time. I find this to be a good source of marketing information, article ideas, and traffic to my websites.

One thing that does come up on a regular basis is how to build an MLM business. It seems people are struggling to do the basics when in reality it should be easier than ever.

When I look at the signature file of people who are posting questions about building their network marketing business I see they are promoting the company provided website. For the most part the majority of people who are trying to build a business really do not understand the basics of Internet marketing.

You can break Internet marketing down to three primary functions.

1. Get your own website.

2. Build an email list.

3. Spend 90% of your time marketing online.

I would venture to say that the majority of people in network marketing are not doing any of these three things. My question is WHY NOT?

Today it is very easy to set up your own website. I personally buy domain names at Go Daddy. I host at Host Gator. I use the Fantastico Word Press option to set up blogs with a couple of clicks.

Those four things right now will get you going with your own website. This doesn't take any technical knowledge to do.

I use Aweber to build my email list. This is an autoresponder that stores names and email addresses when people join your list.

You need to set up a sign-up form on a splash page and promote that to build your list. You can also put your sign-up form on your blog and let people sign up there.

The majority of your time will be spent marketing your new website and building your own list. The advantage to doing it this way is if you ever decide to change the network marketing business you're in you still have your own website and mailing list.

If you spend all your time promoting the company provided website, and quit, you have wasted your time. This right here is the primary reason for learning how to do Internet marketing for yourself.

When you master basic Internet marketing skills you will no longer struggle to build your MLM business. You will also be able to promote more than one network marketing company at a time to increase your income even more.
