Network Camera Has Very Mixed Reviews

The Foscam FI8918W Camera is advertised as a pan and tilt, wireless and wired camera, which can be used in a variety of ways. When you read the reviews, it seems like the people are talking about two totally different products. One group believes that the product is great and it works exactly as they said it would and the other group is filled with people who believe that it is the worst product ever made, and you should never even consider buying the product.

If you read the reviews of what some people used the camera for and how well it worked for them, you would think it would be great for everyone. But then if you read the other reviews, you would never even want to take a chance. To some they put the camera in places to watch what was going on, in fact many used it to keep track of a baby in another room, and it worked perfectly. For them the picture was clear and worked in all light conditions from dark to daylight. For setting up the camera, it was plugged into the router with the cable which was included. The camera can be accessed straight from a browser, and on a settings page the pan/tilt speed can be adjusted, and the wireless settings added. There are many options, but only the basics are needed to get your camera placed anywhere within reach of your wireless router.

For one reviewer, this IP camera was easy to setup, and gave them the viewing of their home from remote locations like they wanted. After doing much research, they found nothing came close to this IP camera for the price. Another reviewer found the setup to be a breeze, and the support was excellent, with a wizard to guide you through everything. After the camera is set up, it works flawlessly, with high quality and operating silently. The majority of the reviews were just like these, filled with good experiences with a camera that did everything they wanted.

While not as many as the positive reviews, the negative reviewers were just as emphatic that the product was not worth having. One got the camera as a gift, and said the manual was poorly written, the support was bad, and they threw the camera in the trash can. Another got the camera as an inexpensive alternative to the baby cams, but the wireless part didn't work. One of the selling points of the camera is the wireless feature and if it doesn't work, it is no wonder there are so many disgruntled people who have bought this product.

If this is the type of camera you would like to have, then you need to do plenty of research, and read all of the reviews. If you find the positive reviews outweigh the negative ones by enough to at least try the product, then you should give it a try.
