This is a purchase for camera lovers who take a lot of pictures inside and want really good quality. The expense might stop you from buying this flash, but many of the reviewers who bought this for use with their Canon Digital Cameras, would have bought it sooner if they could do it over. This flash is especially good for parents, with their first child, and all of the pictures they want to take. If you are looking for a reason to buy this product, here are some pros and cons, to help with your decision.
The recycle time is quite fast, as the flash fires each time when you take several burst shots in a second. The flash is more than capable to stay ahead of your picture taking, unlike the built-in flash. The TTL is awesome and the shots are almost always exposed perfectly. It is very powerful, has lots of manual controls, and can override the TTL easily, when necessary. Can get 400 to 500 shots quite easily without recharging the double A rechargeable batteries. You can take pictures at any shutter speed with a flash with high speed sync, but there is quite a reduction in the distance the flash travels. If you want the flash bounced off of ceilings or the wall behind you, you can do it because of the 90 degree tilt, and the 180 degree turn.
It is built very well with a sturdy metal foot, and the locking mechanism is impressive. With any lens you can get sharp pictures when taken indoors with the rear sync, even at 1/30 of a second or less. When shooting in low lighting, the Speedlite can find your target and focus without the annoying test flashes. It just sends out a red light rather than the crazy electrical storm from the regular camera flash. Some of the negatives about the flash are, if you have big fingers, you will have a hard time pushing the buttons. It is pretty big, and it adds weight to the camera, but you will be impressed by how much better your pictures look.
If you are looking to improve your photography, you will find that this flash investment will make that happen. There are plenty of uses for this flash, and even when outdoors you will start seeing shadows, that your flash can lighten up. Grossly overexposed or underexposed photos will no longer happen, because the flash does a great job of calculating the right amount of light to expose the photo. You will like the ability to bounce the flash off of places like white ceilings, or even walls.
If you are just a casual photographer, you can get wonderfully exposed photos by leaving the flash in automatic mode.
