LED TV is just another product on the market with an acronym in front of two letters that we recognize. Or is it? More and more people are starting to become part of the LED TV market because they also want to have the technology that everyone else possesses.
LED stands for light emitting diode and is used as the backlight for LCD TVs. LCD stands for liquid crystal display and is the new "it" TV to have as long as it has HD or high definition. Most LCD TVs mainly use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for the backlight. LED-backlit TVs use more of the light emitting diode (LED) for the backlighting. Current LED-backlit LCD TVs use LED lighting for approximately forty percent of the backlight.
The typical light emitting diode is too large for individual pixels on a conventional television so no television is a true LED TV. An LED display is often used though on screens for sports grounds as well as for commercial displays. Because the display is so sharp, the images are able to come out clearly.
Because there is no true LED television, there has been quite an outcry from manufacturers when Samsung launched its LED television range. However, their argument is that they have a higher percentage of light emitting diode in the liquid crystal display so that is why they have called it an LED TV series.
The main difference between an LED LCD TV and a "regular" LCD TV is that there is a greater image contrast on the LED LCD TV. This is caused by the backlighting LED which causes the shadows of the images to stand out more, thus making them more pronounced.
Consumers are not only drawn to LED-backlit TVs because of the image quality but also because the unit uses up to forty percent less energy than an LCD TV. As everyone becomes more eco-friendly and wants to go green, this has become a huge selling point for the product as it allows the unit to be sold as a product that is environmentally friendly.
The LED TV has revolutionized the design of the television. Gone are the days when a television is more than twenty centimeters thick. LED TVs nowadays can be only 1 inch thick! It can be said that these LED TVs produced an eco-friendly, slim product that fits into today's modern lifestyle and have changed the design of television forever.
