If you are feeling as though you are suffering from back pain that no one else can possibly understand, then you are completely wrong. You would probably be surprised to hear how many people actually suffer from this affliction. In fact, because of this, the tips in this article have been gathered together so that you, and others like you can get help for your chronic back pain.

Take breaks between long periods of sitting to keep your back in tip-top shape. Taking regular walks or just getting up and doing some stretching exercises will go a long way towards preventing back pain. Sitting for long periods of time will bunch up your muscles and cause strain and tension. In order to minimize your back pain, you should be sure you are not overweight. Any excess weight can put pressure and strain on your back, which results in pain for you. Watch what you eat and exercise, keep your weight in check, and you will experience less back pain. If back pain has got you down, get up and move. Sitting still or lying down will cause your muscles to stiffen and tighten up. Although you shouldn't twist or turn try doing some safe exercises at least 15 minutes a day; consult your doctor to see what exercises are safe for you and your back.

To help relieve back pain resulting from strained or injured back muscles, give your back plenty of rest. Strained back muscles need rest and recovery, which speeds up the healing process. Try lying on your back or on your side, whichever is most comfortable for you. Keep your spine properly aligned in its normal position. Some people find that lying on firm surfaces, like a firm mattress or a carpeted floor, helps immensely. When suffering with back pain, it is important that you be careful of your motions. Any sudden movements or awkward twisting motions can cause the pain to worsen. Apart from wearing a brace, you can not physically prevent moving awkwardly. This is something you have to be mentally cognizant of to avoid further damage. If you are suffering from back pain, use creams that help radiate heat to your nerves and muscles. The heat from the cream helps alleviate pain and relax the tension of your muscles. It may take a few days of treatment before you experience the healing qualities of the cream. Remember to keep the lifting and moving to a minimum when suffering from back pain.

Aging brings about increased risk and inevitability of back pain. Therefore, since age is unavoidable, it should be clear that you should take every other precaution that you can in order to maintain back health and keep the back pain away. While age will always be at play, so will all the other things that you are doing to help yourself. Apply ice to help reduce swelling. When you injure your back, blood flows to the affected area causing it to swell. While swelling is a normal part of healing, excess inflammation can increase the pain. If you apply ice, it will speed up healing and numb the pain. Use ice for the first two days after injuring your back. Never apply directly to the skin - always have some kind of barrier like a towel or pillowcase. Some living a sedentary lifestyle will experience chronic bouts of back pain, so it's always a great idea to ensure that you're getting up and moving around for at least 30 minutes of the day. Experiencing back pain while sitting and then going to lie down can create a cycle that results in severe pain at frequent intervals.

Ask your doctor or go on-line for a list and diagrams of some very helpful and simple exercises you can do every morning that will help your body become stronger and more capable of sustaining the everyday stress and strain that take such a toll on your back!
