Golf Tips for the Beginner Ladies: Overcoming Intimidation and Fear

Ladies? Are fear and intimidation keeping you away from enjoying the great game of golf? Let's see if I can help you get past some of those feelings, and get you on track to discovering the greatest game in existence!

First off, let's talk a minute about the state of the game in 2011...ROUNDS ARE DOWN! No matter what city you may be in or what type of golf course you may be associated with, golf courses have seen a significant decline in the number of golfers who play their courses. Beginner golfers are a major priority for most facilities right now, growing the game is paramount.This is great news for you, because most course professionals/managers are being very creative to win your business! Daily specials and open tee times mean you are in the driver's seat to huge savings!

The other major component that has changed is the level of customer service golf courses have now implemented! A much friendlier environment, a bend over backwards approach, to gain your loyalty, will greet you at the door! If you are flexible with the time you play, you have some great options! Afternoons are generally quiet around the golf course, especially after lunch.

Take a few minutes one weekday and visit the local course, between 1-4 pm. Make a point of trying to meet the head golf professional and the assistant(s). Introduce yourself and explain that you are new to the game and need some guidance on the procedures of the facility. Ask questions in regards to practice facilities; can they be used at any time? Driving range availability; do you buy range balls in the pro shop or at the range? What are the hours of operation for both areas? How many days in advance do they take tee time reservations? Ask for a brochure of all associated fees and the tee time phone number and/or online reservation system.What are the slow periods of the day that you could reserve, that would be best for you to play. During the slow periods, the course may offer special discounted rates. If your course doesn't offer any specials, ask for one!
