It's the dream of a lifetime - travel the roads of Mexico on the back of a hog - a motorcycle hog that is. Not surprising, this is a popular trip for many Americans, Canadians, and even Europeans, many of who start in Alaska with the goal of hitting the Tierra del Fuego in South America ("Land of Fire" is the name of the southernmost point of the South American continent in Argentina). For others, Mexico is a sufficient country to explore. With over thousands of miles of open roads, from snow capped mountains to high desert, touring Mexico on a motorcycle can be one of the most beautiful and fulfilling adventures of your life.

Preparing a motorcycle trip to Mexico takes some initial planning. One of the first things you will want to consider is getting motorcycle insurance for Mexico. Only Mexico motorcycle insurance will cover you in Mexico, so even if you have an excellent plan already, you will need to find a licensed broker to get you a quality Mexico motorcycle insurance policy. This will protect you and your motorcycle the entire time you are in Mexico, be it for a week, or a year. You can also consider getting extra vandalism and partial theft coverage. This will insure that no matter what happens, you and your property will be safe and secure.

Once you have the proper paperwork, buy a good Mexico road map and start mapping out your journey. Guia Roji is the premier Mexico travel map. They are updated regularly and offer current road conditions on all roads in Mexico. You can buy city guides as well that will give current information on hotels, restaurants, and places of interest. Mexico has seen an intense road building campaign in the last five years or so, so having a current and up to date road map is essential. Older maps will not show the new toll roads, which are often faster, smoother and safer than the old roads. However, since this is Mexico still, many roads are not adequately marked, so without a proper map you may end up passing them by.

Once you have your route mapped and your motorcycle insurance for Mexico, you are ready to hit the road. You will want to bring along a few essentials, such as extra water, a waterproof jacket, and a Spanish phrase book. If you stick to the toll roads, you won't have to worry about extra gas and spare tires, since the toll roads are regularly patrolled by the Green Angels, a roving service that is similar to AAA that helps travelers with car or motorcycle problems on the toll roads. The Green Angel's service is free when you pay to take the toll. Thank you Mexico!

Each year thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts take to the highways of Mexico for exhilarating and inspiring road trips. These trips can allow you to see some of Mexico's most spectacular sights, from stunning desert vistas to enchanting volcanoes to golden sand beaches. Start planning your trip now and turn your motorcycle dream trip to Mexico into a reality.
