Being able to speak Spanish while you are traveling in Mexico will make your trip more enjoyable since you will be able to communicate more quickly and efficiently. If you don't already know how to speak Spanish, you can take a crash course at a Spanish school in Baja. Courses are offered for those of all levels of Spanish comprehension and have flexible class schedules catering to travelers. So if you are on a road trip through Baja, consider spending a few weeks studying at one of these Spanish schools on the beach.

The Center of Languages

The Center of Languages offers Spanish language and cultural programs from its location in Ensenada, Baja Mexico. The school operates year round including weekends and holidays. Students can sign up for classes that last just a week, to as long as six months. The school offers a home-stay option for students where they stay with a Mexican family while taking classes. The Center of Languages is accredited and offers credits that transfer to many U.S. colleges and universities.

Spanish Language School La Paz

The Spanish Language School is located in the town of La Paz in Baja Sur. It offers immersion Spanish classes including vocabulary, grammar and basic conversation. A special medical and business Spanish course is offered as well. Home-stays with Mexican families are offered to students in order to learn about Mexican culture and customs, as well as increase the rate at which they master the Spanish language. However, students can choose to stay in any accommodation of their choosing. The school is located just minutes from the La Paz Bay in a converted hacienda. Classes are available for a minimum of one week and a maximum of 4 weeks, with an extra week available for those who need it.

Se Habla...La Paz

Se Habla...La Paz has been teaching Spanish in La Paz since 1999. They offer a wide variety of courses that can fit into any travel schedule. Sign up for as little as a week and stay and study for up to 12 weeks. Immersion courses with home-stays with Mexican families are available, but students can also choose to stay in accommodations of their choosing. The school is accredited with Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas and Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to conversation, grammar and vocabulary, special legal and medical Spanish courses are offered. Weekly cultural presentations on Mexican history are also offered.

Los Cabos Spanish School

The Los Cabos Spanish School is located in San Jose del Cabo in Baja Sur. It opened its doors in June 2010, so it is a relative newcomer on the Spanish school scene. Classes for both kids and adults are available year-round. Along with Spanish language classes, cultural activities, excursions and extra courses such as dance and cooking are offered. Immersion stays with Mexican families are available. The school will also help students to locate other housing options that suit their needs and budgets. Classes are available by the week for as many weeks as the student desires.

Any of these schools can be reached by air or road. A road trip that includes a week or two of Spanish school will greatly enhance your experience, as you learn to communicate and navigate in Mexico. You will want to make reservations for your Spanish classes before you leave to ensure that you get into the classes you want. You will also need to be sure and get Mexican car insurance before you leave. While schools will provide you with handouts and workbooks, it is also advised that you bring a long a good Spanish dictionary for your own benefit. With a little hard work and dedication, the time will soon come when you won't even need it!
