If you are thinking of heading south for the long Thanksgiving weekend, you should remember that November is an excellent time to hit the beaches and mountains of Mexico. You may want to stay close to the border so you won't have to spend all your time on the road. There are many Thanksgiving events being planned this year in tourist towns in Sonora and Baja California, Mexico. Here's what's going on...

Tequila and Guitar Festival: If your idea of a perfect Thanksgiving involves strong spirits and excellent music, then head down to the Hacienda de los Santos in the quaint Sonoran mountain town of Alamos. Patron Tequila sponsors the weekend, and Master Distiller Ingeniero Francisco Alcaraz will be hosting tequila tastings and a presentation on Friday and Saturday. Puerto Peñasco, "Rocky Point", Mexico: There is more than one reason to head to Rocky Point for Thanksgiving. On November 27th the 3rd annual "Art in the Park" will be taking place in Las Conchas Fiesta Park. The event will host a variety of artists and feature photography, metal art and textiles. This is a perfect place to find unique Christmas gifts for family and friends.

You can also check out the Thirsty Parrot for the annual Island Style Thanksgiving. This year they will feature singer/songwriter Rob Mehl. Performances will be held on the 26th and 27th. In addition, some great Thanksgiving specials are being offered at some of Rocky Point's best hotels.
