Any office refurbishment project is very likely to involve a new look at how your office ceilings blend with the new plans. This review presents some key office ceiling types each of which addresses particular needs and budgets for your office upgrade ambitions. Whichever type is chosen, the common aim is always to consider the motivation of the staff that use the offices and the consequent revitalisation of your business.

Lay-in ceilings: These ceilings offer a convenient, cost-effective system for upgrading the look and appearance of the existing ceilings. They are typically used for special purpose applications requiring maximum ceiling sound absorption.

Clip-up ceilings: Flush clip mount ceilings are the modern alternative to Lay-in ceilings and provide a clean look. Typically they are fabricated in metal and can be finished in virtually any colour to suit your design.

'Stretchy' ceilings: Stretchy ceilings are economical, high quality, practical and safe. A frame is formed around the perimeter of the space and a flexible membrane is then 'stretched' within the framed area to form a smooth, clean looking surface that can be up-lit or back-lit to achieve some fantastic effects.

Stretchy ceilings tend to be maintenance-free, and they do not suffer from condensation. A huge advantage is that they will not peel, crack or flake. They provide a great alternative to suspended ceilings and can be installed easily and quickly with little disruption to your business. If necessary for any reason, they can easily be removed and reassembled to allow access to the space above.

In general terms, the sheer versatility of this solution allows for the imagination to get to work on creating unique and individual designs to really motivate the workforce and impress visitors.

MF ceilings: These are plasterboards fixed on to a metal or wooden frame. They can be used as they are or as a base for more decorative ceilings.

Additionally, they can be used to correct existing crooked ceilings, to cover any minor building structural defects, to provide sound and heat insulation, to reduce the overall height of a room, to cover any unsightly pipes or ventilation above the ceiling, to cover electrical, internet, fire alarm or local network cabling without digging into the existing walls, and finally, to create a workable base for decorative ceilings

Overall, MF ceilings are a useful consideration for fast-track refurbishments as potentially, they do not slow down the other aspects of the refurbishment, such as painting, cabling and wallpapering.

Whichever solution works for you, whether as a one-off refurbishment of existing ceilings, or as part of a complete office redesign plan, it always pays to work with a competent office fit-out specialist who can advise the best solution amongst the array of possibilities. The right attention to design will repay dividends, and make your workplace ceilings truly something to look up to!
