Does the program offer residual income? This type of recurring income is preferable because you get paid every month from one sale. You can get paid for years down the road for an effort you did just once. Residual income can have a huge influence on your earning potential.

Do they offer a good pay schedule? Companies pay their affiliates on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule. If you find one that goes beyond one month you should develop concerns over joining them. Some merchants won't pay until you reach a certain threshold. For example, if the minimum balance is $50, then they won't send you a payment until your commissions reach that point. This is normal, as the merchants can lose money by mailing out small checks on a regular basis. However, if the limit is too high, it may take you forever to get paid.

You may also want to consider what payment options are available to you before joining. You may prefer checks in the mail or direct deposit to your bank account. Paypal is also another option commonly used to pay affiliates. There are some companies who don't even give you an option, so you're stuck with whatever payment method they use.

Does the merchant provide promotional resources? It makes is easier to promote a product if there are banners, ads or even websites that are offered at no additional cost.
