When you are starting a breeding operation then you really should have a pedigree from at least the 4th or 5th generation. You can never get by with inbreeding so you will have to look for a good stud from a totally different source.

You have got to be certain that your dog is one that will meet the AKC standards, do not even think about starting out with anything less. You really need to check out the standard for your breed and make sure your dog meets or exceed these standards before you breed or purchase.

If you are going to be successful, you are going to need a lot of patience as well as passion for what you will be doing and if you do not feel it and do not have it best you do not start in the beginning. Dog breeding will take a lot of your time from the very start. You need to be prepared for it.

You will be incurring a lot of expenses that are going to be yours to pay. You have to find a good mate. If you are not going to spend a lot then you better get ready to spend a lot of time doing a lot of work. You must be sure of your passion as well as your patience.

Surely you are aware that dogs can be very difficult to handle, but you still must be patient with them, this is a must. You should never beat your dog unnecessarily.

Maybe you should start a salon for fancy dogs, or open a dog kennel rather than getting into the breeding end. If you are really sure you can make money with the breeding, then you have no choice but to give it a good try.

By now I guess you are asking yourself how much is this going to cost you to get started. The one purchase will be the female dog. You must pick a popular breed that is at least fairly easy to work with. The female can cost from five to eight hundred dollars.

To do it properly you must have the female go the vet and go through a battery of tests in order to ascertain that you are not getting a female with big problems. Many times the tests can approach $250.00 or more.
