Pretty much every household has a washing machine but there are a few questions that many washer owners don't know the answer to. These questions are often relating to the running, purchase, disposal and also washing machine repair.
Below are five of the more frequently asked questions relating to the many aspects of your machine:
1. Should I buy a washer-dryer?
Whilst there is a financial saving buying a washer-dryer, the combination of the two means that the dryer suffers somewhat. Also they do not usually cope with the drying capacity that a dedicated unit would. This will result in having to perform more loads to cope with the amount of drying you require.
2. Should I get a hot-fill version or a cold-fill?
Nowadays it is almost impossible to purchase a hot fill washer. Virtually all manufacturers have stopped making these models and rely on a cold feed which is heated inside the machine. The older system performed the heating of the water inside the boiler which was more efficient.
3. How can I clean my washing machine?
If you constantly wash at lower temperatures of around 40ºC to economise, you are at risk of building up mold in the machine. If every so often you wash at higher temperatures you will be removing the mold and any bacteria. If you don't, you are better off making sure you perform one hot wash per month, to help combat this build up.
4. How do I dispose of my old appliance efficiently?
Many retailers will collect and dispose of your old appliance as part of the deal when buying a new one. Local authorities will also offer a collection and disposal service though this will cost you a small fee.
5. If my washing machine breaks down, is it worth repairing it?
There are a few important points to to take on-board when deciding whether or not to repair or replace your washer. The age of the machine, it's reliability track record, whether you know a good repair company etc., all play a part. A machine that is well and truly past its sell by date, might well be worth replacing but an otherwise solid machine may well be worth sticking with and repairing.
Hopefully, the above points will help answer some of those frequently asked questions.
If you decide to repair, visit the website's of your local repair companies to get an indication of price and professionalism. Also, see if there are some testimonials on the site from satisfied customers to help build some confidence in the company.
