Any investment on home improvement is often pretty costly and therefore requires careful consideration and evaluation. One such major investment is that of replacing all your home's windows and very possibly the doors too, with bespoke wooden versions. So what's the best way to be sure that you will select a good, reliable, reputable company to undertake this very important home improvement? Any errors when it comes to selecting the right company for the job could be disastrous and very costly.
Below is my 5 point checklist to help you when weighing up the various companies in the marketplace. There are plenty around so there is no reason you can't find exactly the right company for the job:
1. The first and most important is to visit previous completed projects by the company you are interested in. Have a good look around not only the wooden windows and doors themselves but also the quality of the fitting. Make sure that you make the time to visit a few previous jobs, just in case you are sent to their one and only flagship project.
2. Don't be afraid to ask probing questions to the owners of the houses with the example projects. Ask about the cleanliness of the workers and their reliability. What about their noise levels as you probably won't want radios blasting out at full volume all day when they are installing? Also check on their punctuality and general professionalism.
3. Ask to pop down to their factory to see where your wooden doors and windows will be made. The standard of the factory and the workers will help you gain the full picture about that particular company. Maybe the company who manufacture the windows is different from the fitters - all worth knowing.
4. What are the company representatives you are chatting to about your proposed project like? Do they seem honest and reliable and are they people you could see yourself doing business with?
5. Is the company being over-pushy to get you to part with a deposit or maybe even suggestinga cash deal to beat the taxman? This really doesn't bode well and should make you more than a little apprehensive about that company.
So there you have it. Follow this simple checklist and hopefully your investment in your home should be a happy and successful experience. If you jump in without giving the whole project and the company you intend to use careful consideration, you may just end up kicking yourself.
