When one has purchased a new Hot Tub you naturally wish to use it as quickly as possible, after all not much point in buying it if you can not get to use it, however there are some elementary points that you need to cover to ensure that it is safe to enjoy.

Of course the idea that warm water flowing through massage jets soothing ones aching and tired muscles does become too sound like a real treat after a day at work.

Modern style Hot Tubs and spas have come on leaps and bounds since the Japanese conceived the initial concept hundreds of years ago.

The first thing that you need to do is to fill the Hot Tub and depending on your water quality it could be a good idea to use a filter that will help remove many impurities from the water. These filters are very inexpensive and easy to fit onto a hosepipe or at the tap you draw the water from.

Maintaining a designer style hot tub is a touch more complicated than many people realize. It is in many ways much more complicated than a motor car where one simply has to check the water and oil and nine times out of ten that is done on the dash board or check the air in the tyres perhaps weekly.

In a Hot Tub Spa we have very warm water and therefore if this is not properly treated with the proper and required respect and care it could and will turn into a breeding ground for germs and bacteria that would turn the usual very pleasant Hot Tub experience into a nightmare.

However one should have no concerns in this regard if you carry out some pretty simple steps.

The first one of which is to add the Sanitizer to the water such as Bromine or Chlorine. You need to allow the chemicals to disperse into the water and check that the level is adequate using a testing system such as test strips which I explain in more detail later in this article.

One of the most important things to be aware of when maintaining a hot tub is the water quality and that is related to the filter system in use and the cleanliness of the filter.

The filter removes and retains the all the contaminants from the water in of your spa hot tub.

Should the filter not be cleaned properly it will put more demand on pumps and it will not be long before you have some horrible water in the spa.

It is in my view a very good idea to have a spare filter so in effect you have two at any one time.

This way you can change them say once a week and clean the one that is removed by soaking it over night in some cleaning solution. This way you will maximize the life and use of your filters.

It is a very good idea to have a Hot Tub with an ozone generator known as an ozonator. This produces supercharged particles of oxygen known as ozone.

Ozone is a word that is often used in conversation but I doubt if many of us actually know what it really means.

Ozone is what I would describe as active oxygen or supercharged oxygen,

Ozone is created automatically by nature when mixing together, oxygen in the atmosphere with ultraviolet rays from the sun or from an electrical discharge during a lightning storm.

Ozone is a natural purifier and when it is formed no harmful chemical by-products are created as it is a natural process of purification.

One of the recognizable effects of Ozone is that fresh clean smell bit like the scent of a mountain stream.

Ozone is one of the powerful sanitzers that can be used safely in Hot Tub spa.

Ozone is a very useful alternative water purifier to the more traditional chemicals that have been used such as chlorine and bromine.

But as there is no such thing as a chemical free Hot Tub usually bromine or chlorine are usually used to sanitize your Spa.

I personally prefer bromine for one thing you do not get a swimming pool smell in your Hot Tub.

Both chemicals work well to sanitize the water but I still much prefer bromine as it is more effective at higher temperatures.

It is essential to keep the pH balance of the hot tub water at the correct level.

This is the measure of the difference between acidity and alkalinity.

The pH balance of the water should be checked on a regular basis as water that is too alkaline will cause scale and lime to buildup in your hot tub.

If the acidity os to high then this will eat up the components of the Jacuzzi style hot tub, and could cause irritation to ones skin.

Simple test strips , are readily available and are very accurate which can be used to check the pH balance of your water. You can then get pH plus or pH minus to adjust the pH balance either up or down as appropriate. The pH balance should be maintained in the range of 7.2 - 7.8..

This article is not meant to be exhaustive but a brief introduction into the topic of water quality in a spa hot tub.

Good health and clear skin generally go together. The reason for this is your skin is the largest organ in your body and if your body is not healthy, your skin will not be healthy.
