By ancient hot springs I am referring to the kind of places that people might travel to "take the waters".

The word SPA derives from the Latin as Sanus Per Aquam (SPA) which simply means health through water. It was well know that in the days of the Roman Empire that their battle weary Centurions would seek out hot springs to heal and re-juvenate their tired limbs.

Around the world, for many thousands of years people apart from Roman Centurions have been soaking away their aches and pains in warm thermal baths. It can be shown that warm water has been a natural relief for the many ailments that the rich tapestry of life brings during the ancient Times of Egypt, Greece & Rome a tradition that still continues in modern times. In those ancient times it was a very common practice to enjoy long hot soaks, not only was it accepted to be a ritual but indeed more than that as it was known to bring relief from the aches and pains of life. In those days they were often small pools of water with the benefit of having warm water piped into them from a natural hot spring.

Natural Hot Springs are usually located in those areas that are rich in geothermal activity. These hot springs provide mineral rich warm bubbling water, which many people believe provides relief for a variety of health problems

It is a known fact that even today many thousands of healthy people travel widely every year to "take the waters" or to put it more simply soak in hot springs, just for enjoyment and relaxation.

There are of course many places on Earth where natural springs can be found but it is generally accepted that the common use of the word SPA derives from the city in Belgium that is called SPA. The Belgium City that is a famous worldwide "Spa" is the actual place where the very word "Spa" comes from.

Then in Great Britain you have the City of Bath which is very aptly named with its very famous Roman Hot Baths.

In Iceland there are multi Hot Spring locations as there are in many parts of North America and New Zealand to name but just a few.

In the Aegean islands of Greece there are the thermal springs of Lesvos, or Mytilini, These hot springs were known and used by the ancient Greeks and were respected for their therapeutic abilities.

These hot springs were used by the ancient Greeks and respected for the therapeutic relief that they provided. Tourism has had a much lesser impact on Mytilini so the island does not have much in the way of tourist infrastructure. There are five major hot springs on Lesvos: Eftalou, Thermi, Geras and Polychnitos. The biggest of these is the hot spring at Thermas which is on the road from Mytilene to Kalloni. I guess this may be where the name for the Thermos Flask might originate.

As with the established baths on the island, the waters are taken in a bathhouse, which is divided into male and female sections.

When one considers Hot Springs in Spain one of Spain's well known hot springs is set in the beautiful Malaga region of Andalucia. In the Sierra foothills of the mountainside to the north of the Guadalhorce Valley lies the spa village of Carratraca.

The town of Carratraca has been renowned for hundreds of years for the natural curative properties of its sulphur-water hot springs. The English poet Lord Byron was a frequent visitor during the 19th century when the village was at its most popular. The ancient facility is constructed in the traditional Roman way using both marble and sandstone.

Now whilst these Hot Spring spas were very well received in Ancient Times there are of course many great advantages in a modern Hot Tub some of which are:-

A Massage sequencer

Allowing you to be able to control the placement of Jet Patterns, and their speed so that you can easily pinpoint the area of your body to massage. The same as having your very own personal masseuse to direct which muscles and tendons to massage.

Fully Adjustable Jets

Jets that can be turned up - turned down and even be turned off.

These adjustable Jets are able to provide a vigorous massage to help loosen those tight knotted muscles and naturally increase blood and oxygen circulation which helps to bring nutrients to sore muscles and joints.

Wave Lounger

A wave lounger which is designed to give a full massage to the shoulders, full back, thighs, calves and feet. This kind of lounger with in excess of some fifty Jets just in one seat will provide a pulsating wave massage which works its way down your body at one to two rows at a time moving from ones neck right down to ones toes. This type of lounger will probably have something like seven function programmable controls which will provide seven massage patterns at various variable speeds over your body.

Wave Seat

The wave seat has 20 Jets in one Seat alone that stair step five streams of water one at a time ,up and down your back thereby providing the sensation of gentle finger massage massaging those tired and aching muscles.

Foot Massager

A purpose built foot massager will have Strategically placed nozzle jets to allow a constant flow in order to provide an invigorating massage to a wide area of the feet. Ideal for Golfers and those that like to walk a lot.

Neck & Shoulder Massage

The contoured wrap around neck rest will have two directional Jets that allows warm jetted water to be directed to various locations of the neck and shoulders to sooth neck and shoulder tension.

Whilst the Hot Springs of Ancient days were great in their day so of course are the modern Hot Tubs with all the extra features that are available today.

As with many things in life it does pay to buy the best quality that one can afford, from a manufacturer who has been established for many decades as opposed to perhaps a cheap import. Remember the old saying, buying cheap can often mean that you end up buying twice.

So, my best advice is, that one should, only buy a product that is well built by an American or Western, internationally recognized, producer of Hot Tubs and then there is every chance that the product will last and last and give very many years of faultless performance.

The reason is simple the internationally recognized producer backs his products with a real guarantee, so if it has a fault it falls back on the manufacturer not on you.

As you can imagine these manufacturers have had decades of experience and they build them with the proper parts and components so it will not fail and it is for that reason and that reason alone that they are prepared to provide a long life guarantee.
