It is humorous, is it not, when you get a Spa salesman ,often wearing Sun glasses, talking about the number of Jets in a Spa with out first taking into account some very important factors inter-alia:-

1. Are the Jets fully adjustable? Clearly it is pointless having plenty of Jets if they are of the single bullet type and actually hurt ones back. Clearly you want and expect Jets that are fully adjustable. Having many Jets that are none adjustable and hurt is a complete mistake. But of course this is how cheaper producers of spas try to make their products more attractive when in reality they are disguising mutton dressed as lamb.

2. Then of course you need to make sure that the Spa has strong enough motors and pumps in order to produce the best massage effect from the Spa. Little point is there in buying a spa that claims plenty of jets but hasn't got the strength to pull the skin off a rice pudding.

3. It is a very good idea to have an independent air blower as the air blower is recommended by Doctors as reducing varicose (blue) veins in ones legs and ankles etc. Many times I hear it said that a Spa has air when in fact what they mean is the venturi effect where air is mixed with the water to increase the pressure flow of the water but NOT what I am referring to which is an independent air blower.

For the consumer or end user what does all this mean in plain English?

Well quite often the Spa which is over Jetted with out sufficient power is in truth a cheaply made spa. In reality a Hot Tub with less jets but with adjustable Jets combined with plenty of power is in my view a far superior purchase to one that is under powered and has far too many bullet jets.

Also modern Hot Tubs have cabinet sides which are made of synthetic plastic for various reasons:-

1. It is a far better insulation material than Timber.

2. It lasts far longer in the Sun and is impervious to water damage.

3. As above in 2 it is maintenance free and in today's modern world who gets the time to carry out maintenance anyway.

Usually the Hot Tubs with the wooden sides are made in China as to be frank it is undoubtedly an out dated mode of construction in these modern times.

One of the most important things to consider if not the most important one is the material used and the build quality of the shell in the Hot Tub.

Quite often a none branded and therefore a much cheaper acrylic plastic may be used in the construction of the shell.

If you can, it is a good idea to, try and feel the thickness of the shell as this will give you a good idea of the quality.

On some models particularly those that are cheaper imports from the east the underneath of the shell often feels damp to the touch as if it is still curing or drying out.

This is undoubtedly a sign of poor quality construction and components.
