With the current financial situation many people are concerned about their retirement income. As the stock market falls and large financial institutions fail the average investor has seen their retirement nest egg get substantially smaller.

The days of working for one company your whole adult life and then retiring with a pension have long since passed and it is up to the individual to secure their retirement savings. Many baby boomers realized this early on and planned accordingly; unfortunately many did not and are now beginning to realize that they will need extra income for retirement.

Many people will go to work every day and if the company offers a 401k they might contribute a small portion of their income to it. They are content to pay the bills and not think about the future. If they loose their job then instantly their only source of income and the only source of funding their retirement is gone. Or worse yet, the tap into their retirement account to pay bills.

Having multiple streams of income before retirement is key to increasing your future retirement savings. Starting a part time internet home business while you are still working full time is one option. Many people start a internet home business with the belief that they will earn millions and be able to retire early. While that is a possibility realistically most home business fail after people spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars without seeing a profit.

Starting a internet home business while you are still working gives you time to learn. It's not as simple as opening a web site and watching the money come pouring in. It takes time to learn the ins and outs of having a business on the internet. However the benefits of starting a home business before retirement far out weigh starting a traditional brick and mortar business. There is no need for a large capital investment; in fact you can start with only the cost of a web hosting company. There is also no need to quit your job; this is still the main source of income and in all likelihood will continue to be until you retire. If you want to take a day or two off you can just turn off the computer.

The more you learn about running a internet home business the more money you will begin to earn. When you do retire from the day job your internet home business should be running strong giving you another source of supplemental retirement income.
