Everyone that drives on the streets needs auto insurance in order to drive legally. This is a requirement because it protects both you and the other people and property that are on the road with you. If you drive without insurance, and you have an accident, you can find yourself in a lot of legal trouble. You can also have legal issues if you happen to get pulled over by a police officer while you are driving because one of the first pieces of information that they will ask you for is proof of insurance.

While you have to have car insurance, there is no reason why you have to pay extremely high premiums if you are not a menace on the road. There are three basic factors that auto insurance agents will take into consideration in order to figure out your rates. The first one is if you have had any tickets or accidents in the past few years. They will also see if you have a decent credit history as well as if you have other insurance policies with the company including homeowners and life insurance.

Everyone would like to have cheap car insurance, but you may not meet all of the requirements that will allow you to have extremely inexpensive premiums. There is a move that you can make in order to pay less for your premium. There are many people that do not have a perfect credit history because they may have missed a bill payment in the past. Having a poor credit history can seriously affect your auto insurance premium because this accounts for almost a third of it.

Even if your credit history is not as strong as it could be, there is a way that you can still obtain cheap car insurance. If you have your car paid off, you can choose the amount of coverage that you would like. In order to lower your rates, you can decide to have a higher deductable and lower your coverage. This will make your premium less expensive, however, if you do get into an accident, you will have to shell out more cash. It is best for you to think about your driving habits, and raise your deductable based on that information. If you are not an excellent driver, you may not want to raise your deductable and lower your coverage. However, this does work out if you are a rather good driver.
