Security Guard Training Skills and Qualifications

You have probably seen security guards at different places that you go to on a regular basis. These are the people that wear uniforms, and make sure that everyone in the area is safe. They also watch over the many items that are in a building to make sure that they do not get stolen. Though you may not have ever thought about it, in order to do this job, you have to have some necessary skills that you may not need for other jobs. You will also have to go through security guard training in order to become certified in this profession.

One of the skills that you will have to have in order to make it through security guard training is to be in good physical condition. If you are working at a building, and someone tries to break in, then you will have to be able to run and chase the criminal. You will also be responsible for holding down the criminal until the police can get to the area. This is part of what makes being a security guard a very demanding job.

A big part of being a security guard is dealing with people, whether they are criminals trying to cause mischief or people that are at the building to receive goods or services. One of the main qualities that you will have to have is good people skills because you will be dealing with people on a regular basis. You will also have to be able to keep calm if an emergency should occur.

Through security guard training, you will receive the necessary qualifications and certifications that you will need in order to do your job. You will have to know a lot about the laws as they pertain to the city that you are working in. You will also have to learn how to use a weapon, and the laws that govern that area. Not all security guards carry weapons, however, you will still have to know how to use one, and have your certification to carry one if a specific job should require it. Another piece of knowledge that security guards must have that people normally do not think about is first aid. You never know when someone will get hurt, and you will have to know how to take care of them until the ambulance can get to the scene of the incident.
