Affiliate marketing is a tricky business to master, but whilst trying to get to the top of the affiliate marketing ladder many marketers make all too common mistakes that can certainly knock them down a rung or two, there are five top mistakes I've noticed which I think are easily avoided.

Subscriber's needs: A lot of affiliate marketers will promote any old product without thinking about the needs of his/her subscribers, I mean if someone has subscribed to your "dog training" product then they most likely won't be interested if you promote a "gardening" product to them. Take time to look into the product and think about whether it relates to your niche and is beneficial to your subscribers.

Too many affiliates simply use the affiliate tools for the product: Most affiliate marketers will see there is a product to promote, go to the affiliate tools page, copy/paste an email copy into their autoresponder and send it to their subscribers, now if this subscriber is on other marketers mailing lists whom are also promoting this product, he/she is going to get tons of email's exactly the same telling him/her about exactly the same product. So if a marketer came along with a very different email about the same product, then this email is going to stand out from the crowd and catch the subscriber's eye.

Poor bonus packages: If you've opted for the original approach and you've decided to create your own email and offer a bonus package to the subscriber, then you need to make sure your bonuses are worth having; ideally you want the subscriber to want to buy the product, just for your bonuses. Make sure your bonuses relate to the product being sold, or offer bonuses that result in the subscriber producing content of their own so they can make some money themselves. Limiting the number of bonuses you are giving away is crucial as scarcity can drive the subscribers who are interested in your bonuses to buy the product in a rush to ensure they do not miss out.

Promote products they know nothing about: A great deal of affiliate marketers will simply see there is a product to promote paste the affiliate tools email copy to his/her subscribers without putting any research into the product they're promoting, this also relates to the subscribers needs, by putting in a little time and effort to have a good look at the product you are promoting you can make sure that it is right for your subscribers.

Not providing enough information: If your promoting a product surely you should be telling the subscriber that the product is good and why, it's no use saying "Hey, Go buy this product its awesome" if you give the subscriber more information, and let them know how the product can benefit them then they are much more likely to consider buying.

These five very common mistakes are all too easy to avoid and when you next come to promote a product as an affiliate be sure to avoid them and I'm sure you'll see yourself make a lot more sales.
