When you think of surfing, you probably fantasize about a gorgeous summer day with swells rolling in as far as the eye can see. It's not crowded so when the perfect wave heads your way, you are more than ready to ride it effortlessly to shore (with some super gnarly tricks thrown in for effect). In this fantasy, you probably leave out the more difficult parts of surfing, including one of our least favorites - paddling.

Yes, paddling is great exercise. And yes, paddling will give you a super ripped upper body that the guys and girls will appreciate. But paddling is also really HARD! Three rides into the session and you're probably wondering if riding another is really worth the effort it took to get back out into position. Luckily, a tool was invented to make that arduous task much easier: wetsuit gloves.

These sometimes webbed fingered gloves can make paddling up to 70% easier. Paddling to swells, paddling to get into position, and power paddling to catch a wave requires much less effort when you're wearing a top quality pair of surf gloves. They perform double duty by reducing the fatigue your fingers and palms experience from gripping your board for long periods of time.

Like wetsuits, most surfing gloves are constructed of a super heavy duty and flexible material called neoprene. This lightweight material was designed to keep your body warm during extended stays in cold ocean water. It works by trapping a thin layer of water inside the glove - between your hands and the glove itself. As your body begins to lose heat, it is trapped in that layer of water and keeps your hands comfortably warm.

Wetsuit gloves might not look or feel as cool as hitting the waves wearing nothing at all but if you are hitting the waves in a high northern or low southern latitude, these gloves are an absolute must. The cold that creeps into your body when you're in a body of water for a long period of time is dangerous because you won't immediately feel it happening. Taking precautionary measures - like wearing surf gloves, booties, and a hood along with your wetsuit - is the only way to ensure that you won't end up with a case of hypothermia.

Surf gloves were designed by and for surfers. All of the top competitors on the pro circuit wear these handy tools when they are surfing in cold waters or need some extra protection in the water. They come in different sizes, shapes, and designs so you are sure to find a pair that fits you comfortably.

You'll be amazed at how much easier paddling for waves becomes when you put on a pair of surf wetsuit gloves.
