When it comes to going green you are going to find that there are a lot of things you can do to help the planet and save money at the same time. You should not be thinking that going green is actually something that is going to cost you a lot of money as this is really not the case. The truth is that you will be able to save quite a bit of money each and every year by just following a few simple suggestions. In This Article we are going to be talking about a few small changes you can make to your everyday life and help the planet and also save money at the same time.
One of the first things you are going to need to do is to make sure you are not running your washing machine when you don't have a full load of laundry to do. When you do a load of laundry in the washing machine you are going to find that it will take the same amount of energy to wash a full load as it does a half of a load. So if you only do full loads of laundry you will find that you will be doing fewer loads of laundry every month which means you will be saving electricity every month. Another thing you should do, is if you have the option, hang your cloths out to dry instead of running your dryer, as this will also save on electricity.
Paper towels and napkins are something else that you should try to avoid, as this will help you to save both our trees and your money. If you end up buying 2 rolls of paper towels every week and one package of napkins, you will end up spending about $260 every year on these items. And that is of course if you are buying just the cheapest products that you can find, if you only buy the best this price will be much higher. Instead you should be using towels and cloth napkins that can be used over and over again instead of using something once and throwing it away.
Another thing you can do is just lower your heat by two degrees in the winter and raise the air conditioner by 2 degrees in the summer. By making these small adjustments you are going to find that you will be using less heating oil in the winter and less electricity in the summer.
These little things that we have covered here are just a few things that you can start doing today, but you will find that there are plenty of other things you can do as well. Of course there is nothing that is holding you back from making bigger changes in your life if you choose. You can even find programs online that can teach you how to convert your home so that it is run entirely on solar or wind power.
