Most people are fed up with gas prices, but have no idea as to what to do about it. People who can afford it are purchasing new, fuel-efficient autos in an effort to control their gas spending. It wasn't that long ago that gasoline prices went up globally. This article discusses alternative fuels for our cars.
When you talk about alternative fuel, you are essentially talking about any fuel except for gas or diesel. Autos have recently been utilizing electrical energy, solar energy and hybrid, which is a mix of gas and electric. Today there are even automobiles that run on water-to-gas technology, which means they are able to supplement their gas by using water. There have been a number of reasons why governments and care produces have taken the initiative to make cars that use fuel other than fossil fuels. Europe has tightened the environmental laws, and has levied taxes on fuel, so car makers had to act. There might even be additional restrictions on the emissions of greenhouse gases.
As fossil fuels give off CO2, and that is a greenhouse gas, and almost all automobiles run on fossil fuel gas, our atmosphere is worsening. This results in climate changes, particularly raising temperatures, and adding to global warming. You may not even be aware that there are automobiles that run on water, fuel cells, solar energy, LPG, and ethyl alcohol. LPG is liquified petroleum gas, and automobiles running on it are running on a mix of butane and propane. When LPG is compressed, its hydrocarbon gases become liquid. Not only will automobiles running on this lower carbon monoxide gas emission, but cut fuel expense by 50% compared to diesel and gas.
There are automobiles that utilize solar arrays to produce electricity out of the sunlight, and then use the electricity to run an electric motor, or create another fuel like hydrogen. The solar arrays are ordinarily on the roof of the car. Other autos utilize ethanol, which is sourced from plants. Crops high in carbohydrates, or plants high in sugar are fermented to create alcohol. Brazil uses sugar cane to produce ethanol, and have replaced 200,000 barrels of crude oil everyday. They have cut back on their deadly emissions by more than 30% with their ethanol powered autos. There is one other type of auto that uses fuel cells, which make electricity and heat out of hydrogen and oxygen. These type of autos are the best to drive, as they only emit water vapor and heat.
Hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius, use a few different energy sources. The advanced technology they utilize fuses an electric-powered motor with a small gas-powered engine. It utilizes both of them at different times, like the electric-powered motor when going slow speeds. Traveling at state highway speeds, both are being utilized and the battery is being charged at that time too. Solving environmental problems is the aim of adapting to more expensive fuel prices by looking int alternative energy.
