Candle making can be an ideal home business to start if someone does not have a lot of start up cash. Not only is wax cheap, but it can be reused if the first ones don't turn out too well.

Candle making can be a lot of fun and it is always a good idea to start a business with something that you really like doing. You will want to get up and 'go to work' every day and that is fantastic, especially if you are working at home. One of the things that is so much fun with candle making is the fact that when you are working with some of the different designs you don't know how they are going to turn out and seeing the end results can be exhilarating or just a plain straight out laugh. Isn't art wonderful that way?

Making a professional looking product

What is always important if you are hoping to sell your product is the fact that it needs to be very professional looking. This is where learning the right techniques come into play. Once you have learnt these techniques you can start experimenting on your own.

A professional product not only needs to look good in itself, but it needs to be presented nicely for the client so give consideration to the overall end result when designing your candles.

If you focus on color, fragrance and design you won't go too far wrong. With your color it would pay to make sure you are aware of the popular designer colors being touted at the time so that your candles will fit in. Or if you are making for Christmas you would obviously choose the Christmas colors of white, red, green, gold and silver. In saying that other colors are not popular for Christmas as well like electric blue and mauve.

Selling your candles

There are a lot of options with selling candles and they could be:

- at local markets

- by party plan

- selling to retailers

- selling on the internet on Ebay

- selling on the internet with your own site

Whatever way you choose to sell your product, package it beautifully and make it a 'must buy' product.

There are many different ideas for making candles that will be attractive. You can make very fancy candles with the wax when you know the techniques, or you can make relatively plain candles but imbed petals, leaves and other embellishments to make them attractive. You can also tie raffia around them to make them more appealing. There really is just an endless list of ideas to make your candles look very special.

Using a hobby to turn into a home business can be just the answer for some people. You already enjoy the work so it is just a matter of marketing it, and possibly diversifying your product. The candle making craft has proven to be an excellent home business and candles are such a popular product.
