Most women will at some point in their lives experience at least one attack of a yeast infection. Even men can fall prey to an outbreak. Once experienced, a yeast infection is something that everyone will want to avoid in the future. Unfortunately some people are more prone to attacks than others but there are several simple things you can do to reduce the possibility of an outbreak even starting.
Tip One: Pick the type of soap you use carefully. Every one likes to smell nice and perfumed soaps are a great way to get an all over fragrance. However you should avoid using them in the genital area. The perfume contained in the soap can irritate the delicate skin and yeast infections can flourish when the skin becomes hot and irritated. These types of soap can also change the natural pH levels of the area which can also trigger a yeast infection outbreak. So for your more intimate areas use mild soap, preferably pH balanced and remember to rinse thoroughly.
Tip Two: Avoid wet clothing. Yeasts love moist, warm places and by wearing damp or wet clothes you create ideal conditions for yeast infections to start. If you have a workout at the gym or have had a hard sports session you're sure to have built up a good sweat in the groin area so shower and change into dryer clothes as soon as you can. This build up of moisture can also happen during normal daily activities if the weather is very hot. Clearly it isn't practical to keep changing damp items of clothing during the day so try and pat dry the excess moisture with tissue whenever you can.
Tip Three: Choose your clothes carefully. Tight fitting underwear and pants look good but tend to increase the heat in the intimate areas of the body. Man made fibres should be avoided here as they trap moisture. Cotton is best because it will mop up excess dampness. Try and go for loose rather than tight especially on hot days.
Tip Four: Avoid over cleaning. Some women like to use douches after their menstrual period. These are unnecessary and can upset the delicate pH of the vaginal area allowing yeasts like Candida to run riot. Over washing can have the same affect. Good personal hygiene is necessary if you are prone to repeated outbreaks of yeast infections but being overzealous can create the very problem that you are trying to avoid.
Tip Five: Be careful when taking antibiotics. Antibiotics are great at killing off bacterial infections. Unfortunately they are also good at killing off the good bacteria that help keep yeasts like Candida Albicans in check. If you need to take a course of antibiotics be extra careful when it comes to intimate hygiene and eat lots of live natural yogurt which contain good bacteria to try and counteract the affects of the antibiotics you are taking. If you're a woman prone to yeast infection attacks you might want to use yogurt covered tampons as a precautionary measure.
