You should apply for your India visa no sooner than three months before the date that you wish to travel. Business visas are issued for six or twelve months respectively and you must include a copy of a letter of invitation from the Indian company with whom you hope to do business. Unless you submit a copy of the letter of invitation with your visa application, you will not be granted an India visa for business. Unless you have a visa you will not be allowed to enter India.

If you have received notification from your company regarding a business trip to India and they require you to depart within a matter of weeks, you should apply for your Indian visa immediately. When you submit your application form and all of the required supplementary documents but do not want to trust your application to the regular post, you can opt to have it picked up and returned to your door by courier. Providing all your documents are in order and the letter of invitation has been included with your application, you should receive your visa within a few days of applying for it.
