While having dinner with friends last weekend, the topic most talked about was fortune-telling. Apparently, someone in my group paid a visit to a tarot card reader and had his "fortune" told. He claims that out of the 10 or so things "predicted" by the fortune teller, 4 seemed to come true only in a matter of days.

Clearly astounded by the teller's accuracy, he asked me to have my cards read by the same lady. I admit that his story sounded amazing, but I politely refused the invitation to see the fortune teller.

I have always suspected that card readers are keen observers of their clients' body language and personal details which circumstances provide them with the basis for healthy guesses about the future. These guesses have a suggestive effect on those who believe in the ability of the fortune tellers.

The more you replay the so-called "predictions" of a card reader in your head, the more likely you are to cause these predictions to happen in your life. It is your mind working together with the law of attraction of the universe. What you think is mirrored right back at you. Your thoughts eventually become real.

While I can't see or predict any of the future events of my life, I believe that I can create part of that future by thinking about it always.

The same principle of attraction also applies to negative things. We can get rid or avoid the things we do not like by simply not thinking about any of the undesirable stuff. When negativity strikes, don't pay it any attention and focus on something positive. As you ignore what you don't like, you will notice how it eventually disappears.

In recent years, I learned to identify the triggers of my negative emotions and avoid them as much as possible. I see less of the people who seem to have nothing good to say about their lives. These are people who are highly critical of the things, people or events around them.

I kicked the habit of reading the sensationalized stories of newspapers. When personal problems strike, I allow myself a minimal period to smart from the hurt or the pain but I am careful not to play sad thoughts in my head. What I think, I begin to feel. If there is anything I want to change about my self, all I have to do is think about it always and somehow things go my way.

I don't need a fortune teller to look into the future. I am the master of my own destiny.
