Of course Lady Gaga is known for her musical ability as well as her somewhat individual style sense.

This individualism has often also been known to extend to her preference for glasses and Lady Gaga sunglasses. Since her first set of videos, one of Lady Gaga's traits has been to mask or divert her image using fashion for her body and a wide range of unique or custom glasses and sunglasses to shield her eyes. Most glasses wearers wear glasses or sunglasses to shield their eyes from harmful rays or bright light - but in another twist of the Lady Gaga lifestyle, she has proclaimed her Gaga Glasses and Sunglasses to be primarily to hide her eyes from public view so that hew fans and others can focus on her work rather than her look.

Many of the glasses and sunglasses that Lady Gaga wears are classic from some of the great fashion houses such as Versace, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Dior; possibly the most well known glasses that Lady Gaga has been seen wearing in her videos comes from her hit single "Paparazzi" where she wore a pair from Linda Farrow and Jeremy Scott that became known as the "Mickey Mouse" glasses for the shape that they took when they "popped up" to reveal…………well to reveal more prescription sunglasses underneath.

Another striking range of Lady Gaga glasses came from the Carrera Glasses range in the "Bad Romance" video. These were a selection from the Champion line of sunglasses (and also prescription sunglasses) that are styled in the classic "aviator style" of sunglasses. This range of glasses and sunglasses are also available online - and importantly carry a price tag far less than the vintage and couture sunglasses that she is possibly more well known for. It is possible to buy many of the Champion line of Carrera sunglasses online from glasses suppliers and online opticians.

The most recent innovation for glasses worn by Lady Gaga came from her appointment as creative director for Polaroid and the introduction of the "Grey Label by Haus of Gaga" which included a range of technology driven glasses and accessories for the modern world. Lady Gaga had previously been seen wearing glasses that incorporated an iPod and music - but this latest innovation in prescription glasses has taken it a step further by fully integrating video as we as audio into the glasses themselves.

"This is the first ever pair of sunglasses that can be worn out to protect your eyes from the sun and they can also take pictures," said Lady Gaga at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas this year as she introduced the GL20 sunglasses. Lady Gaga also acknowledged that the inspiration for these glasses came from the earlier iPod glasses that she had created for the "Fame Ball" tour, where she connected together iPod screens in order to make glasses that displayed images.

The new GL20 glasses from her Grey Label flip this around and rather than displaying images as the glasses lenses themselves, record the video and save clips or images to a usb memory in arm that can be detached and saved for later printing or sharing on her Lady Gaga blog.

Say what you like about her new eyewear collection, but it clearly represents a positive step in the safety glasses department when contrasted with the razor blade glasses that she sported in "Bad Romance" or even worse….the sunglasses that were made with burning cigarettes!

Lady Gaga and her glasses seem now to have refocused (excuse the pun!) from fashion, style and in some cases shock value of glasses - to a more practical use for glasses and monitoring the world that is around her. This seems to indicate her embrace of "lifelogging" whereby individuals and more likely celebrities such as Lady Gaga record their world as it passes by - and glasses such as the GL20 are able to record or take snapshots and post directly to social media. Whoever thought that prescription glasses were just for improving your vision, when they could be doing so many other useful things as well ?
