Those wishing to enter the nursing field may want to consider becoming a certified nurses aide. CNA training is easy to acquire, and the only prerequisite is having a high school diploma or GED. Certified nurses aide training can be obtained by attending classes at a vocational school, attending classes online, or working in a training program on the job.

A certified nurses aide works under the supervision of the nursing staff to increase the quality of life of patients. Patients may be of any age with a variety of health problems or mobility problems. Certified nursing aides assist patients directly with a variety of daily living activities. Daily living activities may include bathing, dressing, and eating.

Besides having a compassionate personality, a certified nursing aide needs to possess a certain amount of strength. Many of the patients will have mobility issues that require assistance. A certified nurses aide must be able to help patients with mobility as needed. For this reason strength is needed as lifting, kneeling, and standing for long periods of time may be required.

Certified nursing aides work directly with patients. Compassion and nurturing personality are required to perform the job in hand. Sometimes companionship between the certified nurses aide and patient will be needed since a certified nurses aide is the part of the nursing staff most often seen by the patient.

Certified nurses aide training can be completed in about 6 weeks. Upon completion of 75 hours of training, state exam is given to ensure proper skills have been learned. The state exam will consist of both written and oral components. In addition, clinical practice will be included on the test.

Certified nurse's aides work in hospital settings, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and in home healthcare. Most certified nurses aides work full-time currently according to statistical data. The workplace has professional air in which a certified nurses aide is a vital part.

Certified nursing aides may specializes in the field and can expect higher wages depending upon the specialty chosen. For example psychiatric aid may make more than a geriatric aid.

Certified nursing aides make between $9 an hour and $14.09. Pay increases with experience and specialization. Additional experience and training are provided on the job. Health and other benefits may be available to certified nursing aides who are employed on the full-time basis. The amount and type of benefits given are highly dependent upon the employer for which the certified nurses aide works.
