The data on dental assistant's salary caps within the United States is impressive when analyzed. On average, dental assistants receive between $9.74 per hour and $18.89 per hour. Of course, that means an increase when discussing overtime, which is common in the profession. Overtime pays average between $11.13 per hour and $28.05 per hour. The variance in rate of pay is due to many factors. The top four reasons for variance in reported wages are experience, geographical location, education, and certification. Education is mandatory for a dental assistant with many vocational schools offering classes to those wishing to enter the field, however not all schools are equal. As a general rule of thumb, the better the school attended the more money a dental assistant can expect to make. The school must be accredited and its courses certified in order to command higher wages in the work place.
