With fast growing employment and fantastic job prospects, you can't go wrong when making the decision to take up a career as an assistant to physical therapists. To become a physical therapist assistant is a noble call indeed and receives all the benefits of any healthcare practitioner working in hospitals and clinics.

Physical therapist assistants assist the physical therapist in providing treatment to the patient. Your daily activity includes helping the patient in rehabilitation, conducting various therapeutic exercises, providing massage, observing the patient's progress and reporting data to the physical therapist. You may also be asked to help patients use supportive devices such as crutches. Clerical duties such as answering calls and typing forms are also to be expected.

To get started, you will need an associate's degree in physical therapy assisting. After earning your degree, you will need to get your license to start practicing. The license requirements vary according to different states, but usually you will need to pass a state exam and have a CPR and First Aid certificate, in addition to working for a minimum hour of fieldwork.

But before jumping into any field, you should familiarise yourself a little with what you're getting yourself into. Are you ready to take instructions from the physical therapist? Are you ready to help patients with their exercise, provide massages, baths and other treatments? These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself before making your decision to be a physical therapist assistant. The best way to know if it's the right job for you is to do some volunteer work with a physical therapist, doctor or at any local nursing home.

The working environment for a physical therapist assistant is a tough one. You'll need to be physically fit due to the physical work needed to assist patients in their treatment. You might even need to lift patients. Be prepared for frequent kneeling, bending, squatting and standing for long hours. It helps to be patient, resilient and friendly.

We all know that the job pays well. The size of the medical faculty you're working at, location, experience, education, industry and benefits ensued are some of the factors that play a role in determining a physical therapist assistant's pay.

Overall, becoming a physical therapist assistant is definitely a rewarding job, both financially and spiritually. You earn a good living, have an established job that many will look up to and most importantly, help the sick and those in need.
