Have you ever like doing something in your lovely garden when the west wind is blowing heavily and the chilling coldness is prevailing outside? Have you ever thought of enjoying some sort of pleasant and beautiful scenery without ever stepping out of your door? Hydroponics gardening will help you realize that. Hydroponics is to grow plants without soil. Though plants are much in need of soil, they do not directly absorb it, but rather minerals contained in the soil.

Hydroponics is to provide plants with minerals needed for their growth. When plants begin to grow as seeds, a growing medium also plays an important part to help to fix the root of the plants. Another thing that is of paramount importance is light. Different plants and plants of different growth period need different light.

Among a various range of grow lights, the major ones are HID, MH, HPS, LED grow lights as well as fluorescent lights. Every type of grow lights has something to recommend itself. HID (high-intensity discharge) lights enjoy several types, including MH (metal halide) grow lights and HPS grow lights. HID lights are high-pressure gas discharge lamps with inert gases, like xenon gas, inside and they do not have a filament like halogen lamps do. The operating principle is to form arc between two electrodes and produce light with the help of starter and electronic ballasts.

Both metal halide grow lights and HPS grow lights consist of an alumina arc tube and are in need of a ballast to stabilize their operation. The difference lies in what is inside the bulbs. The former have argon, mercury vapor and a variety of metals while the latter have sodium, mercury, and Xenon to start the light and produce light with certain color. HPS lights can supply plants with blue spectrum light needed in the growing stage. MH lights can supply plants with red spectrum light needed in the maturity stage.

Small size and shining bulbs enable LED lights take up much less room than traditional lights do. They use light- emitting diodes which serve as semi-conductors, so the lights do not produce harmful gas like HPS and HP do. They also produce a lot of light in colors useful for plant growth. The light is directional without the help of reflector as the traditional lights do. Among all LED lights, UFO LED Grow lights are worth mentioning. They are in possession of bulbs in a circle and boast a broad angle to cover almost every corner. In a way, LED Grow lights are being more and more popular.
