Getting old is great; all of a sudden you're offered senior citizen discounts, free bus passes and no one bats an eyelid if you want to pop to the shop in your slippers. Despite all this you don't necessarily feel old do you?

Now is the time to really enjoy your life, you've always worked hard, you've raised your family and watch them start families of their own, now you just want to enjoy your retirement, put your feet up and enjoy not having to fight your way through the rush hour traffic and compete with all the young kids in the office every time there's a hint of promotion. There is no shame in admitting you might like a little help though, there are so many gadgets and gizmos out there to make you're golden years a little easier, you may not feel you even need any help at the moment but it doesn't hurt to be aware of what's out there so that when the time comes you know exactly what you want.

The first thing to do is be able to recognise when you are going to need a little assistance, how many slips is it going to take before you admit you may not be as steady on your feet as you used to be, how many notches are you going to have to turn the television up before you concede it might be time for a hearing check up and how much closer are you going to have to hold the paper before you get yourself down the opticians? Being able to recognise when you need help is a sign of strength and will give your family and those close to you comfort that you're doing just fine.

As we get older our hearing and eye sight starts to deteriorate, this doesn't mean that you're going to wake up deaf and blind tomorrow but hearing every day noises like the telephone and door bell might become harder. There are a whole host of telephones that have slightly larger buttons and light up when they ring, this doesn't mean you need Blackpool illuminations lighting up your front room every time the phone rings, it's just a little extra insurance to ensure you don't miss any important calls. This same technology works well with doorbells too, a little box with a small light that means you don't leave your visitors standing on your door steps worrying about why you're not answering the door. Most of these are quite cheap and easy to set up. Decreasing motability is another factor of old age and the older we get, the harder it is to get around but there are so many amazing products out there to make sure you don't struggle. Stair lifts may seem like you're admitting defeat but as I've already mentioned, there's no harm in just checking out what help is out there for you. If the stairs are starting to become more and more difficult, then a stair lift has to be easier than moving house, they're perfectly safe and although slightly more expensive than a light up telephone or doorbell, the price is nothing compared to the peace of mind a fitted stair lift can bring to a concerned family who may be a little worried about how you're managing the stairs.

The bathroom may be the next room you want to look at, accidents happen no matter what your age, but there are certain precautions you can take to minimise the risk of them happening to you. A relaxing soak in a warm bubble bath is a great way to unwind regardless of how old you are but if climbing in and out the bath is starting to feel like pole vaulting its not quite as relaxing as it should be but this doesn't mean you should be depriving yourself of a refreshing wash or a peaceful soak. Walk in baths can be easily installed into most bathrooms with little disruption and can make bathing not only easier but safer too, fitted with a water tight door, you not only eliminate the need to climb over the side of the bath but they can also come with a seat so you can sit down while you wash cutting down the risk of slipping whilst giving your toes a good scrub.

Bathing Freedom are specialists in providing bathing solutions for the elderly and those with disabilities, with a range of products from walk in baths to complete wet rooms, their expert solutions are designed you give you back freedom and control whilst you bathe.
