Psoriasis is a skin disease that affects how fast skin cells mature and flake off. In a normal skin cell cycle, skin cells take about a month to move from the deepest skin layer to the top skin layer, where they die and flake off. When you have psoriasis, this process only takes a few days. What results is the formation of thick silvery scales and dry itchy skin. Painful red patches can also develop. For most people, it is just an appearance issue because psoriasis can be very unsightly as skin flakes off. But sometimes it can be debilitating if it is linked to arthritis. Psoriasis is a long term condition and there is no definite cure. But there are ways to reduce the appearance of psoriasis the natural way. Read on to discover some of the natural treatments for psoriasis.

If you eat a lot of fish such as salmon and sardines at least twice a week this will help provide your body with essential Omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids can really help reduce inflammation and decrease the appearance of psoriasis.

Another treatment for the itchiness and painful inflammation of psoriasis is to eat chili peppers. Chili peppers contain capsaicin which give chili peppers their hotness. Capsaicin has been proven to be effective in relieving inflammation.

This treatment for psoriasis is readily available, but should be used carefully. It is sunshine, that's right just sunshine. Put sun block on other areas of exposed skin and leave the areas of psoriasis exposed. Sit in the sun for short periods of time but be careful not to get burnt.

The spice oregano has been used for many years in cooking. But did you know that oregano also has antibacterial properties? A lot of people have used oregano with great success to help with their psoriasis symptoms. It can be taken internally or applied locally. But be aware that oregano can cause contact dermatitis for some people.

Some studies have proven that shark cartilage extract can help prevent the formation of new blood vessels. So how can this help with psoriasis? Researchers think that the growth of new blood vessels can play a huge role in the development of psoriasis lesions. Another benefit of shark cartilage is it's anti inflammatory properties. This supplement is normally taken in pill form.
