Given that cases of life-threatening diseases like cancer has been growing exponentially nowadays, the call to become healthy has never been as persuasive and apparent as it is now. Alarmingly, we can largely attribute the cause of this upsurge to the Western diet—meat, dairy, sugars, white breads, caffeine, alcohol, saturated fats—which most of us, due to the appetizing lure of convenience, indulge in.

Many people will still defend against this seemingly simplistic notion of health and disease because it manifests results (i.e. health detriments) gradually (not immediately), it is still prudent for us to follow a diet that can not only keep our health from deteriorating but also regain the vigor of our youth. After all, you do not know what will hit you and when, so, as the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry. The diet for the job is called the alkaline ash diet.

This specialized dietry approach centres around consuming high alkaline foods. These foods, which are fresh and low in sugar, are meant to counter the ill effects brought by Western diet foods in our body. You see, the latter group of foods is considered acidic. As such, these foods can lead to numerous diseases like obesity, osteoporosis, and cancer. An alkaline ash diet is designed to provide the necessary nutrients to restore the alkalinity of the body, which is usually overpowered by the acidity brought about by none-alkaline foods.

According to Robert Young, an American author who promotes alternative medicine and alkaline diet, a balanced diet should have an intake of 70-80% alkaline foods and 20-30% acidic foods.

Alkaline diet makes it possible for our body to stay healthy as it involves eating foods that are rich in calcium, iron, sodium, cesium, magnesium, and potassium. Examples of these are fresh vegetables, fruits, low-sugar foods, herbs, and other nuts (chestnuts, almonds, etc.) and spices (chili peppers, ginger, etc.). It is wise to note, though, that there are only five fruits that are strictly considered alkaline. These are lemons, limes, grapefruits, avocadoes, and tomatoes. All others are mildly acidic.

Besides the intake of these energizing foods, it can also help if you look after the liquids entering your body. The normal water that you commonly drink contains positive charge of possible acidity. In order to neutralize this, you can get an alkaline water machine to ionize the water and make it alkaline. Too, try juicing wheatgrass and enjoy health benefits like detoxification, protection of liver, and strengthening of cells. Other benefits of wheatgrass include being able to shun tumors and neutralize toxins.

Additionally, an alkaline ash diet lowers the chance for you to suffer flu, fatigue, joint and muscle pains, spasms, and persistent headaches. It can also lead to increased strength and stamina, mental clarity, and better digestion.
