Each year, many babies and children suffer serious injuries or die due to violent shaking. Shaking a baby is very dangerous and can cause Shaken Baby Syndrome. Shaking a baby is unsafe because babies have weak neck muscles and a fragile brain. Their brains are in the process of developing and are more prone to brain injury than an adult and in fact, injuries from shaking are not necessarily short term. The consequences can be catastrophic and long term lasting throughout their childhood and the rest of their lifetime. How long a baby is shaken doesn't hold significance either. A baby that is shaken for a second could receive the same type of injuries of a baby that was shaken for three minutes.
Shaken Baby Syndrome can be prevented. Knowing how to prevent the abuse caused by shaking a baby is very important for all parents and guardians and we want to share with you a few tips on prevention. These tips were tailored by Michigan Children's Trust Fund. They include:
-Never shake a baby or young child.
-Know which actions may harm a baby or cause Shaken Baby Syndrome, including spinning a baby, bouncing a baby, or failing to support a baby's head when holding or playing with him/her.
-If hiring a caregiver or babysitter, make sure they are a credible, responsible person.
-Make sure that anyone who is caring for your baby knows how to hold and handle your child. Tell them to "never shake the baby" and explain that babies are fragile.
-Know what to do if a baby in your care doesn't crying.
Taking care of a baby is huge responsibility and one that should be taken very cautiously. If a baby doesn't stop crying, shaking him/her is not an option. Here are some tips on how to stop the baby from crying:
-Check to see if the baby needs to be fed, changed, or made comfortable.
-Make sure the baby is not ill. Check for fever, swollen gums, or any other indications of illness or injury. If these signs are present call the baby's physician or seek immediate medical attention. Give the baby proper care based on the doctor's recommendations.
-Gently rock or walk with the baby.
-Take the baby for a ride in a stroller or in a car seat in a car.
-Check to make sure the baby's clothing is not too tight or that the fingers or toes are not bent.
-Talk or sing quietly to the baby.
-Offer the baby a safe, noisy toy. Shake or rattle the toy.
-Show a child love and concern by gently holding and cuddling him/her.
-Put the baby in a snugly, soft sleep sack that will keep the baby warm but will not bunch around the face like a regular blanket.
Settlements for injured children typically provide compensation for the child to cover future medical expenses, educational expenses, and other care.
Parents of injured children do have legal rights and should pursue a lawyer highly specialized in both a medical and legal standpoint immediately after the incident.

The Family Court is a kangaroo court because of its predictable and unconstitutional outcome - an outcome that deprives a father of his children, and most all his fundamental rights. It's maintained so by the power, money, and agenda of the state-based divorce and domestic violence industry. And here are the perverted and unconstitutional characteristics that allow this to be so. - Finding The Right Person For the Job: CPA Vs. Tax Attorney (Mark Etinger)
