Hybrid cars are the latest craze in the car manufacturing industry because of the promising advancements in fuel efficiency and green technology. While the idea for such transportation wonders remain only as a concept decades ago, they are now actually manufactured by car manufacturing giants as Toyota and Honda and are marketed to the public. The use of hybrid cars continues to escalate as more and more people are drawn into its advantageous features and the luster of its popularity. Today, other car manufacturing companies are either drafting their own design of a hybrid car or are already starting to engineer it and will have its launching in a few years time.

Like other innovations introduced in the recent years, hybrid cars were welcomed with high anticipation. However, people who remain skeptical about such innovations were not out of the picture. Admittedly, hybrid cars have their own sets of strengths and weaknesses that a consumer must learn about before making a purchase to have an informed choice. The advantages and disadvantages are important to be learned so you would have a clear understanding of the total package of a hybrid car and to create a realistic and logical expectation about them.

As hybrid car manufacturers would boast, the biggest advantage of a this car type is its fuel efficiency. With the use of two propulsion power sources, hybrid cars can considerably reduce your fuel consumption and give you better mileage. Hybrid cars use electricity most of the time and the fuel engine only activates whenever battery is low, continuing the drive and, at the same time, recharging the batteries. The downside about this is the fact that hybrid cars have more complex engine systems which most people are not familiar with.

A complex system will naturally cost a lot of maintenance need than cars with a single power source. Whenever technical problems arise, you must expect that your hybrid car will require longer fixing time, which follows a higher cost than fixing traditional cars. In some instances, the complexity of the system may breed complex problems which add higher cost to maintenance.

With the system employed in hybrid cars, one must expect it to have a higher price than conventional cars. Two propulsion engines means higher price. Available hybrid cars in today's market have considerably higher prices and so average consumers may find it expensive to buy one. Yet, purchasing this car type provides a lot of green advantages that are hard to find even in the latest and most updated conventional cars. A hybrid car emits lesser greenhouse gases since it uses electricity most of the time.

With the advantages and disadvantages offered by hybrid cars, it is only logical to make a thorough consideration before making a purchase. Presently, car manufacturers continue efforts to improve hybrid cars to lessen their disadvantages; promising better versions in the future.
