The Corso Buenos Aires in northeastern Milan is one of the city's major shopping streets. This long avenue, connecting Piazza Oberdan to Piazzale Loreto, is loaded with great shops. This street is said to have the highest concentration of clothing stores in all Europe. The focus is on ready to wear clothing but with hundreds of shops you'll find what you are looking for, if you can manage the crowds. This is also the place to go for vast array of merchandise, from scuba-diving equipment to luggage. And don't miss the ethnic shops and restaurants. Many of the buildings are neo-classical and well worth a close look. Nearby is the Central Railway Station of Milan (Stazione Centrale), a monument of Fascist architecture. You may want to stare at the Palazzo Pirelli, formerly headquarters of the Italian tire manufacturer and now the main regional administrative building. For your convenience we have listed neighborhood hotels in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive. We have personally verified all hotel websites making sure that they include English-language pages.

The three-star Hotel Florida is a short walk from the Corso. This hotel is known as being very clean. You'll enjoy the marble and contemporary art decorations. Most of the rooms are non-smoking. The address is Via Lepetit, 33 Milan 20124.

The Antares Hotel Concorde includes 120 renovated guest rooms, 5 meeting rooms, a restaurant, and a wine bar. The common areas were recently renovated, applying a special lighting system. There is a garage with valet parking and a fitness room. Babysitting service is available. The hotel address is Viale Monza, 132, Milan, 20127.

The Hotel Michelangelo boasts a conference center that can handle over 1,300 people. It comes with all the requisite technology and services. There is a bar and an upscale restaurant. Among the more than 300 rooms, there are rooms for smokers, non-smokers and the disabled. All rooms offer free wireless Internet access. Let me quote the website on breakfast: "Some say our buffet isn't just the best hotel breakfast in Milan, but the best breakfast period! No skimpy continental stuff here, but the real deal." The address is Via Scarlatti, 33 Milan 20124.
