We all know people who consider themselves to be something of amateur chefs, and a good way to show our support of their hobby is to buy gifts for them, especially on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. The public's interest in home cooking is at an all-time peak, spurred on by the Food Network, in which the celebrity chefs have helped increasing the popularity of cooking at home. Various cookware, cooking appliances and accessories are now available at various stores, and the most difficult part of choosing cooking gifts may actually be deciding what to get.

A good place to start buying gifts for a friend or a family member who loves cooking is to find out if they have a favorite celebrity chef, as most of the big names like Gordon Ramsay all have a variety of recipe books, cookware and other tools, all bearing their names. Buying them gifts like that may help them to believe that they can cook like the famous chefs they truly admire. Another good way to get an idea of what they may need in their kitchens is to watch them and listen to what they say when they are preparing a meal. It may become very evident that they are missing a vital piece of equipment that would really help to speed up the cooking process for them.

We all have seen the common gifts for cooks, such as cookware, utensils and aprons, while these choices may seem a little mundane, you can spice up the ordinary by having aprons personalized with your friend's name, or by choosing a cool color scheme. For pots and appliances like blenders, they now come in a variety of colors that will match just about any existing color scheme in the kitchen. This is where you can get creative and add a personal touch that your friend will really like.

Of course, with the proliferation of cooking shows on the TV, there are now all kinds of things used by the professionals that most of us have never heard of; sets of knives that do way more than just cutting up vegetables, and cool looking little tools like garlic rockers which, while probably not frequently used by the amateur cooks, can add a touch of style and elegance to the kitchen. There are quite a lot shops that have a variety of different things that you may never have thought of as gifts for cooks. If you are truly stuck for ideas then perhaps one of the best things you can do for a cook is to buy a lot of ingredients and ask the cook to prepare a meal for you. It's a win/win case as they can test their skills and you get a delicious meal at a cost much lower than that of eating out.
