Promoting a business through postcard advertising is known to be one of the simplest ways to invite prospects. More importantly, the use of postcards has been proven to be effective based upon the experiences of small business entrepreneurs and big business owners alike.

If you own a small business, have you tried advertising with postcards? If yes, were you happy with the results? If you have never tried this method of direct mail advertising, then you should definitely try it out.

Below are practical tips on how you can achieve positive response from your postcard marketing campaign:

Send it to the right people. Before sending out your postcards, make sure that you have the right list of prospects. If you send them out to people who are not interested or have no need of the products you offer, you may not get the results you expect.

If you are distributing ezine, then you can send out postcards to those who are subscribed to your online newsletter. You may also consider old customers who have once bought from your store. Consider gathering referrals from your family, friends, customers and acquaintances. You can also buy a mailing list from a reliable broker.

Make your postcards personal. Postcards are more subtle than other forms of advertising. When people get marketing letters from the mail, they usually do not bother to open them, thinking that they will be forced to buy something.

On the contrary, a lot of people do like receiving business postcards, particularly if it is creatively done or if they contain a catchy message. Some even display their favorite postcards on the doors of their freezers or on the walls of their work stations.

Don't do your selling with postcards. Whatever you do, do not try to do your selling on the postcard. It has very limited space so you cannot possibly include all the benefits and information that you would like your prospect to know. And if you try to include all the details, your postcard will look cluttered and confusing.

How can you use your postcard effectively? You can use it to encourage a prospect to take the next step or take a positive action. For instance, you may use it to invite the recipient to check out your new website and place an order online. You can also introduce a new product or service through the postcard.

Some entrepreneurs distribute cards that double as "discount coupons", "vouchers" or "claim stubs". To enjoy the discount or get the free gift, all the recipient has to do is present the postcard or enter the code on the card when he/she makes the purchase from the shop.

Don't beat around the bush. People can instantly read your message the moment they get hold of the postcard. Thus, it's best to make your message short, clear and concise. Use call-to-action words that specifically tell the reader what to do.

Always send First Class Mail. In the Us, First Class Mail sending costs less than 30 cents for a standard size postcard. Although the cost may be slightly higher than Standard Mailing, it comes with the Return to Sender Option and other significant features that can help you keep track the results of your postcard marketing campaign more easily.
