Writing an e-mail is a difficult task for some people. But actually, it doesn't have to be. You just have to know some facts to come up with an effective e-mail. One factor that you should focus on is including or excluding attachments.

Don't Include Attachments

A few years back, most online marketers included file attachments with their e-mail. Unfortunately, scammers and unethical programmers started using file attachments to hide malicious programs and tracking devices. This is the main reason why recipients don't want to open attachments anymore. Therefore, not only can including attachments to your e-mail make your readers not open your email, but it will also encourage them to unsubscribe if they think you maybe intentionally or unintentionally passing a virus on.

Reasons Why Sending E-mail Attachments Generates Negative Results

Virus Carriers. Recipients are very cautious when it comes to opening a file attachment. There are lots of computer viruses known to have spread through attachments. If you are planning to send an e-mail with an attachment, don't expect that all your recipients would even try to open you letter especially those people who don't know you personally. They would just delete the e-mail as soon as they see that you have included a file attachment to it.

Download Time. Time is precious especially to business people. Most attachments take time to download. They won't waste so much time waiting for these things. Remember, you can just enumerate things you want to discuss with your recipient through the body of your e-mail. You can write descriptive paragraphs.

Takes Too Much Space. There are certain e-mail attachments that are too large. This might irritate your recipient. What if they are using a low-memory computer or a slow computer?

Not Transmitted As The Original Format. It is frustrating to receive an attachment that you will find confusing or unreadable. This happens when the e-mail attachment is not well-transmitted or downloaded.

Email Attachment Alternatives

Due to the above mentioned reason, including e-mail attachments should be avoided if you want your marketing plan to succeed. If you find it very important to send a file to your recipient, then you can try sending a .pdf file instead. It is considered safer and it also keeps the original formatting of the document regardless of what operating system your recipient is using. But even sending the file as a pdf will not guarantee that your readers will open your email. One thing you might want to try is to let your readers know in the email prior to the one you are sending out with the pdf, that your next email will have an attachment. Let them know what will be in the attachment and how opening it will benefit them. Letting them know ahead of time will help you get them to open the attachment

If you can avoid including e-mail attachments, then that's the best solution. If you really need to attach a file to your e-mail, make sure you let them know in advance.
