There is no hard and fast rule forleather upholstery cleaning, but only few techniques and precautionary measures to be used. The most important point is to keep your leather upholstery away from the direct sunlight, as this will prevent any occurrence of leather cracking and drying out. Here, are some do-it-yourself tips to go about leather upholstery cleaning.

Make a concoction of vinegar and linseed oil in the 1:2 ratio and then after shaking the mixture, apply it on the furniture that with a clean piece of cloth. Do not rub the mixture; rather use a circular motion to do the cleaning. Let it rest for at least 10 minutes and then you can buff the furniture with a soft piece of cloth.

You can also remove stains that occur because of inks and paints, when doing leather upholstery cleaning by using a cotton swab and dipping it in alcohol. Rub the cotton swab on the stained area and let the spot dry. If needed, you can also use a blow dryer to speed up the process. If you find that the stained area is still there then use non-oily nail polish remover and then coat, the stained spot. Leave it like that the entire night and then the next day, wipe it off!

If you are doing some general leather upholstery cleaning, then you can make use of your moisturizing soap of any brand. Make lather with a soft piece of cloth and then use it on the furniture. Once done, wash it off for the removal of any grime or dirty. Avoid using a lot of liquid or water on the leather and at the same time, keep it in mind not to rinse the furniture. Just buff it with a soft cloth.

There is another do-it-yourself method to do leather upholstery cleaning, especially, if the colour of the furniture is of light colour. It is a mix or a past of lemon juice and tartar cream in the 2:1 ratio. Make a paste out of these ingredients and apply on the stained area. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes and then apply another coat of the paste. Once done, remove it off with a damp cloth or a sponge.
