Adobe Creative Suite is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to creative design in virtually any industry. One thing you are going to notice, and notice quite quickly is that a single program from any developer is not going to cover all of your needs. For this exercise we are going to assume that you work for a major magazine publisher and you need to choose a piece of software that will help you to not only create the cover for your next issue, but also one that will help you to create cover art. Then again you will also need to create images and edit those images. This is where Adobe Creative Suite comes in.
There are three items in the Adobe Creative Suite, those items being Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Indesign. First of all let's talk a bit about Photoshop and what it is used for. Essentially, Photoshop is intended for the editing of photos that already exist. While it is theoretically possible to create your own images in the program, it is neither practical or enjoyable. Instead you will take those existing photos and add certain effects to them.
Photoshop has a huge library of effects that you can take advantage of. For instance you might add a stained glass effect to a portion of your photo, or you may turn the entire image into a watercolor painting. These are just a few great examples, but you will need some artwork prior to doing any editing!
Adobe Illustrator can be used for a number of different purposes, but it's most typical use IS the creation of images. If one were to compare this to an existing piece of software then the best example would be Microsoft Paint, though it is considerably more robust than that. Oftentimes an artist will use Adobe Illustrator in conjunction with an external drawing pad so that an experienced real world artist can create precisely what he or she is thinking of without having to attempt it with the computer mouse.
Between Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop you can create images and edit them to your heart's desire. If you wish to do some real damage however, you will need something to bring these images and modifications together in a presentable format. Adobe Indesign is the bridge that brigs these together, and once it does you will have a nicely finished product.
As you can see, Adobe Creative Suite is a must for any business that relies on presentation. That said, it would be a good idea to look into a license for this software as soon as possible. Naturally you will have the option to run a free trial, but once you do, you will see that this is software you simply cannot live without.
