In today's society, graphic design has become a lucrative career, one that many are now flocking to college to earn degrees in and bustling away to get their career started, whatever they are using graphic design for, be it advertising, packaging, posters or any other form of design. With the heavy amount of people flocking to these jobs it's important to make yourself stand out as a graphic designer. It is important to perfect your portfolio and sell yourself as an employ to these companies if you are going to be able to compete. To begin you always want to have your own logo, an exclusive symbol that marks your portfolio and helps show that you can promote a brand, and promote yourself. It is important to have a memorable and simple logo, one that is dependable and something catchy and easy on the eyes to help show your organization skills and your ability to promote yourself. You will want a tagline that will give a clear message as to what your services and talents are. It has to be simple and quick as well, something that can summarize why you are the top choice, and give a general overview of what your goals are as a graphic artist. Your tag should be catchy and clear to any ordinary person or employer.

You will also want to dedicate section of your portfolio to what services you can offer. You want to go in depth on what your expertise are exactly, be them web design, video development, organization, branding, advertising, whatever your specialty may be, this is the section where you will explain your strengths and why they make you an asset to the companies or customers you are speaking to.

Also creating a blog is great idea. Blogging is often overlooked as a business tool, and if you link your portfolio to your blog you can keep updating and sharing more information that might help sell you as an employee. It helps to show your dedication to your art, and stops your portfolio from seeming static, as you can always change it and keep it in motion. It serves well as a form of communication between you and prospective clients as well.

A portfolio is going to sell you as an artist and as a business. It is important to give as many details about your skills and why you are the best choice. In addition to letting prospective employers know about your skills, it is important to share your background, interests, family and education with them as well. Making this portfolio a summary of yourself will aid in selling yourself to whoever you may be trying to sell to. With all these features implemented, just remember to keep your portfolio simple, clearly labeled, and organized. This will give your portfolio the edge it needs to succeed in this job market.
