Of course, you could choose to have cosmetic surgery. Or you could spend time in expensive spas.

But there are oils which are easily available and which you can benefit from simply by relaxing in a bath! Don't underestimate the therapeutic power of relaxation. I recently discovered the joy of soaking my feet in a scented and soothing foot bath. It is so good it feels decadent!

We are always being told about the health of those who live on a Mediterranean diet. Well there may be some truth in it! Olive oil always reminds me of sunny beaches and crisp salads, maybe on a Greek island! It contains Oleic Acid, (omega 9), and this makes up 55 - 85 percent of the fatty acids in olive oil. It's excellent for your skin, helping to smooth and regenerate tired skin cells. Eat it, massage it on or bath in it. Be my guest! Second on my list of the five most youthful oils is sweet almond oil, which is suitable for any skin type. It is said to improve complexion, moisturise deeply, soothe skin irritation, delay ageing and nourish the skin. Why not blend the oils to maximise their benefits? The third is Grape seed oil which is often overlooked but is a powerful antioxidant, many times more so than Vitamins C and E and this has anti-aging benefits. It is pale in colour and has a liquid rather than an oily texture. I love it for those dry skin areas. Not only does it keep your skin young but it also helps to protect the skin from sun damage. Grape seed oil contains OPCs; a class of flavonoid complexes that act as antioxidants (free radical scavengers) in the human body. These help to stabilize collagen and maintain elastin in our skin. Elasticity in the skin is a sure sign of youth over age. Number four on the hit parade is Sunflower oil. We know this as cooking oil but it is also a light, non-greasy moisturiser that won't leave skin feeling oily. The oil, extracted from sunflower seeds, is rich in the essential fatty acids, all components of healthy skin. It helps to replace the amount of linoleic acid in our skin, which declines with age and can be stripped by harsh soaps and cleansers. Number five is not a base oil but an essential oil. As your Granny would probably tell you, lavender is an excellent remedy for various types of pains including those caused by sore and tense muscles, headaches and is a soothing aromatherapy oil. But Lavender is as good for you in 2010 as it was for Granny - and her Granny! If you don't believe me, try it. You can choose to blend these fab five yourself, use them in your bath or to massage dry skin areas, such as elbows and feet. The Lavender does need to used in smaller proportions and should be blended rather than put directly on your skin. However, what a scent of heaven when you lie gently back into a steaming bath, breathing in the therapeutic aroma of these glorious plants.
