Australia is widely known for its kangaroos, sports facilities, koalas and also for its wines. Australian wine is the world's fourth largest selling wines and comprises of a large slice of the country's exports. This unique continent hosts vineyards in South East area, which includes New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. South Australia is the most renowned one; it includes McLaren Vale valley, Barossa valley, and Clare valley. McLaren valley is the home to Hardy and d'Arenberg wineries and also to Curtis Family Vineyards owned by Curtis family.

Australian wine has placed itself in many acknowledged restaurants of Europe and across the world, indicating prominent signs of progress. Australia produces a large range of wine, deep red wine to clear fruity white wines and fortified wines a type of premium wine, each having its own luxurious taste and texture.

The tradition of Australian wine dates back in 1788, when harvesting vine cuttings was pioneered by Governor Phillip in Australia. Before 1820's, Australian wine was only sold domestically but later it made its way abroad. After the introduction of cleanskin wines, sales of wine escalated dramatically locally since the beginning of this new millennium. Due to new emerging trend in the world, organic wines are also increasing in popularity in Australia.

Wine making process is influenced by many factors like the soil, climate, type of berries used and the cellaring. Cellaring wine is a storing process of wine in a cool, dark and away from moisture place. The optimum temperature for cellaring wine is 18 degrees Celsius with humidity of 60 to 75 percent. Temperature is significant thing to consider as it can seriously hinder the gratifying experience of drinking eminent wine.

Cleanskin wine is a category of selling wines without any label of brand. It is a very economical way as marketing costs are not incurred by the wine manufacturers. It is evident that usually these cleanskin wines lack in quality, so one should taste it before purchasing.

Fortified wines are another premium wine produced in Australia by mixing up alcohol in the wine during the process of fermentation. Liqueur Muscat is one such well-known fortified wine, which is made with faded and drooped grapes, allowing it to become rich and sweet in its flavors and texture.

McLaren Vale region in South Australia hosts the best red grape cultivation of Australia, Shiraz. This grape is the most popular variety of McLaren Vale wines and comprises of about 50 percent of the overall crush every season. McLaren Vale Shiraz is heavier, darker and offers soft flavors. It has more skin to pulp ratio, eventually we have more refine wine. Chardonnay is a major white category of McLaren Vale wine. It is rich and offers classic flavors and taste.

Wine festivals are also celebrated in many wine producing areas of Australia and serve as a tourist attraction as well as help to promote rich wines available. The most renowned is the Biennial tasting which is held in South Australia.
