I have a lot of plans for what I want to accomplish this week. A big part of it is getting more orders from my accounts. Thankfully I have a good brand that stores want. Unfortunately the recession has impacted everyone's business including mine. These days companies are feeling good if their business is the same as last year and not reduced. But, I am trying to grow mine!! What is a salesperson to do? Well the first thing is to make sure the product is as good as it can be, pricing needs to be especially sharp now as everyone is looking for value. Continually marketing my product is key. I have to give excellent customer service, keep a good positive attitude especially when speaking with my buyers. More than ever I have to think outside the box. When I think about it, this is the same thing someone looking for a job in today's economy needs to do. You have to make sure your brand (you!!) is especially top notch. Take a good look at yourself. Do you present the most polished physical appearance you can? Are your writing and speaking skills as good as they can be? Do you do excellent work at your current job or at school (wherever you are right now). This is your product. How good is your resume? Does it include your successes? Have you been networking? This is marketing. What about salary? You should look at the position and price yourself appropriately. Again you must present value. When you go on an interview be prepared. Know the company and the job And why you are a good fit. Send thank you notes. This is the excellent customer service part. And of course a good positive attitude. No negativity or complaining in an interview. A positive attitude in your thinking brings positive results. In the book "The Secret" the author discusses how believing in something creates an energy that brings what you want to you. It sounds magical and maybe to some extent it is. So keep working at developing the magic of a positive attitude. And lastly think outside the box. How can you stand out from the crowd? It is especially tough to get a new job in this economy, but not impossible. Thinking of yourself the CEO of your career will help you think through the steps it takes to find one.
